What the First Film Left Unresolved

The first film began with a question: what if the traditions surrounding Lal Shahbaz Qalandar preserve a forgotten spiritual knowledge that has survived outside official history?

Rather than treating Sehwan as folklore or pilgrimage, The Qalandar Code approached it as a living archive. It explored the Malangs, the dhamaal, the symbolism, the oral traditions, shrines, the sacred geography — everything that suggested another layer of history was still alive beneath the surface. The purpose was never to prove miracles. It was to ask whether something had survived.

But something unexpected happened during the making.

The deeper the investigation went, the more one absence kept appearing. Not Lal Shahbaz. Not Ali. Not the Qalandars. A woman. Sometimes unnamed. Sometimes dismissed. Sometimes hidden inside a cave. Sometimes remembered only through fragments and whispers.

Every path eventually led back to the same missing presence.

By the time the first film was complete, many questions had been opened that it could not answer. Why do the traditions of Lahoot La Makan preserve stories about Fatima that exist outside mainstream history? Why do so many sacred traditions remember a hidden feminine presence? Why do caves repeatedly become places of refuge? Why do women associated with revelation so often disappear from the official record?

Most importantly: if the feminine has been removed from the tradition — what does the tradition that remains actually carry?

The investigation had reached a point where it could no longer be understood through the story of one saint or one shrine. The questions began to extend outward. Connections appeared — some historical, some symbolic, some carried only through oral tradition — between Medina and Balochistan, between Fatima and Mary Magdalene, between Shekhinah and Sakina, between Lal Shahbaz and the Red Bride. I did not yet know whether these echoes formed one pattern or many. But I could no longer ignore their recurrence. The mystery was no longer only the Qalandar. The mystery had become the missing half of the story.
